Science, Math & Literacy (Special Visitors)
*I can record data in a table.
*I can reflect on how purpose and planning influence an investigation.
*I can test predictions by observing and recording data.
*I can use words or phrases in imaginative ways to create meaning or effects.
This week began with a fun learning exploration! "Nanny McCluckins" gifted our students some baby marshmallow "peep" candies. Students built nests, conducted science experiments, completed math graphs, and wrote character descriptions and poetry about their spring chicks. Ask your child to share 3 things they learned.
*I can construct graphs to represent data.
*I can interpret graphs to answer questions.
This week students created their own survey questions and constructed bar graphs.
Some of their questions included:
-What is your favourite food?
-Who is your favourite hockey player?
-What is your favourite restaurant?
Ask your child to share their graphing ideas with you.
Gym (Gymnastics)
We have begun our gymnastics unit in Phys Ed. This week we are using mats and the following 2 weeks we will be using equipment. As a class, we have gone over the checklist and we will do so every day. Please take a scan of our daily checklist to ensure your child picks appropriate clothing.

Swimming
As part of our Physical Education and Wellness Curriculum, students in Grade 2 will be participating in the “Swim to Survive” program at Canyon Meadows Pool. Aquatics allows us to provide students with an opportunity to acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities in an alternative environment.
DATES: April 29 – May 3, 2024. Each class will receive five, forty-five-minute lessons from qualified City of Calgary swim instructors at Canyon Meadows Pool, 89 Canova Rd. SW. We will depart from the school each day at 9:50 a.m. and swim between 10:15 and 11:00 then return to the school at 11:30 a.m. Transportation to and from the pool will be provided by Southland Transportation. Note: There will be a lesson on Friday.
VOLUNTEERS: Parent volunteers are essential to make this opportunity happen. We require 2 volunteers to supervise the students in the changing rooms including some male volunteers. An email was sent to all adults who have completed the required police clearance process. We do not require any additional parents at the pool beyond those selected to volunteer. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Thank you for your understanding.
INFORMATION: There will not be a lot of time available for changing before the lessons, so we ask children to wear their bathing suits under their clothes when they go to the pool and wear clothes that are quick and easy to get in and out of (minimum of zippers, buttons, and ties). Children will be fully responsible for getting themselves undressed and dressed at the pool. Children are asked to bring their underwear, towels, etc. in a bag or backpack – all clearly marked with their name. Also, children must have appropriate outwear for traveling to and from the school and pool. Additional information about parent permission is available on the CBE website at: http://www.cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/Pages/Field-Trips.aspx
COST: The cost for the swim program is $47.10, this includes the cost of transportation to and from the school each day. Payment can be made online through your MyCBE account on or before Monday, April 29th, 2024. No student will be excluded from this experience due to an inability to pay, please reach out to the school office for more information.
