Apr 22 - Apr 26, 2024

Hello Families,

Exciting things are happening in Grade 2!

Swimming
*I can participate in repeated practice for skill development.
As part of our Physical Education and Wellness Curriculum, students in Grade 2 will be participating in the “Swim to Survive” program at Canyon Meadows Pool. Aquatics allows us to provide students with an opportunity to acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities in an alternative environment.

DatesApril 29–May 3, 2024. Each class will receive five, forty-five-minute lessons from qualified City of Calgary swim instructors at Canyon Meadows Pool, 89 Canova Rd. SW. We will depart from the school each day at 9:50 a.m. and swim between 10:15 and 11:00 a.m., then return to the school at 11:30 a.m. Transportation to and from the pool will be provided by Southland Transportation. Note: There will be a lesson on Friday.

Information
There will not be a lot of time available for changing before the lessons, so we ask children to wear their bathing suits under their clothes when they go to the pool and wear clothes that are quick and easy to get in and out of (minimum of zippers, buttons, and ties). Children will be fully responsible for getting themselves undressed and dressed at the pool. Children are asked to bring their underwear, towels, etc. in a bag or backpack, all marked with their name. Also, children must have appropriate outwear for traveling to and from the school and pool. We do not require any additional parents at the pool beyond those selected to volunteer.

This week students learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Have your child share 3 facts they learned and ask them what they can do to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Check out Sully's example below:

Little Bee Bunny
Little Bee Bunny went to play with his friends. But when they played tag Little Bee was it and when he tried to get them they jumped away really fast. Little Bee was not fast and then he tried again but they jumped way faster than him. So he went away so sad. Then Little Bee's Mom went up to him and said, "What's wrong Little Bee?"  Little Bee said, "I can't jump that high and tag my friends." "That's okay all you gotta do is say to yourself "I can do this!" So Little Bee tried that and it worked. He was a good jumper after all. The end.

Postcards for Paddington
Students in Grade 3 did a phenomenal job presenting to our school about the needs of children. We learned more about "Postcards for Paddington" and how we can help other children around the world and raise money for UNICEF. Thank you to our fabulous friends in Grade 3 who organized this donation initiative.
