Wow! This week we had the privilege to celebrate some of CBE's finest employees! Many of our Andrew Sibbald staff have reached milestones within their careers (5, 10, 15, 25 years). Your time and dedication to your profession is incredible. Thank you for your friendship, leadership, kindness, joy, and determination through the years. We are so proud of all of you. Lots of love, Tasha & Janessa

Join us in giving celebratory congratulations to: Ms. Braun, Ms. Chen, Ms. Sandra, Ms. Gardner, Ms. Gordon, Harris, Ms. Kosior, Ms. M, Mr. Newman, Ms. Patry, and Ms. Pols!

Math
*I can record data in a table.
*I can construct graphs to represent data.
*I can compare features of pictographs, dot plots, and bar graphs.
We began exploring data this week. How can data inform representation? This week students explored the problem below. Students were excited to create their own graphs based on the question. Students were assessed on sorting, developing a survey question, conducting a survey, and their survey reflections.

Some sorting plan ideas included:
  • Color
  • Brand
  • Size
  • Type of shoe (runner, boot, etc)
Some survey question ideas included:
  • What is your favourite brand of shoes?
  • What are the hardest shoes to put on?
  • What size are your shoes?
  • What are your favourite color of shoes?

Gym (Basketball)
*I can shoot a ball with accuracy and proper technique.
*I can dribble a basketball
*I can pass and catch a ball with a partner.

Literacy (Writing)
*I can look at different purposes for messages to be shared.
This week students grew their writing. Students worked on formulating paragraphs (hamburger writing) and writing author prefaces for their math stories. See some of their work below:

Students were eager to engage in feedback loops when sharing their math stories. They worked on active listening, completing their author checklists, and giving/receiving feedback. We are excited to share these math stories at conferences next week.

Science
*I can compare the properties of materials to determine what material is best for a specific purpose.
Wild things are happening in Grade 2! We arrived at our classrooms on Friday morning and leprechauns had made a mess! We worked together to clean the rooms up and design leprechaun traps using STEM bins.

Student Voice
"This week at school we discovered a secret message in math by doing addition and subtraction facts." -Addison

"This week at school we wrote about how to trap a leprechaun as well as made a wanted poster about our Leprechauns because on Sunday it is St. Patty's Day." -Archer

"This week during writing, we learned how to write using a hamburger picture. It means the bun is the beginning of your story, the patty, lettuce, cheese, and tomato is all the detail, and then the bottom is the ending." -Edie

"This week we worked on our writing. I liked writing about St. Patrick's Day!" -Sully

"I solved a math logic puzzle." -Everly

"I learned how to catch a leprechaun and we built traps!"-Jacob

Have a wonderful weekend!
