Warm Feet, Warm Heart Campaign

Leading up to the holiday season, we welcome you to join us in supporting the Calgary Drop-In Centre’s ‘Warm Feet, Warm Hearts’ program. With Parkland Cares and Bonavista Cares, we want to begin collecting socks, which students will later fill with various toiletries. The filled socks will be delivered to the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where they will be given to their clients, thereby helping to provide them with the little necessities that we all need daily.

From November 15th to 30th, we are looking for help in collecting:

  • New pairs of warm socks

  • Gloves, mitts, and hats

  • packaged bars of soap

  • lip balm

  • toothbrushes

  • toothpaste

  • floss

  • travel sized shampoo

  • travel sized conditioner

  • travel-sized body wash

  • travel-sized lotion/hand cream

  • coffee/food vouchers

  • gift cards

  • chocolate/candies

In early December, students will be invited to fill the socks with the collected toiletries. These socks will then be brought to the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where they will be handed out to clients. We believe this is a wonderful way to give back during the holiday season and allow our Andrew Sibbald students the opportunity to highlight their empathy, kindness, and wellness outside of our building.

Math

This week we began exploring equal and unequal concepts. Students reflected on scenarios that would value equality (eg: getting the same sized cookie as a sibling). We looked at a variety of quick images to determine if the picture content was equal or unequal.

Mathematical questions to guide our problem-solving discussion included:

1. How could you recreate the image/picture with different materials?

2. Could these images/pictures be represented using numbers?

I can differentiate between equal and unequal quantities.

Literacy (Remembrance Day)
This week we learned more about the significance of Remembrance Day. Students wrote about Peace. Ask your child what peace means to them. See their work below:

* I can understand information from illustrations or visuals when summarizing texts.

French (Buddies)

This week we played "Go Fish" in French with our Grade 5 buddies. Have your child play this game and help them practice numbers 1-10 in French to demonstrate their understanding.

* I can identify Canada's two official languages.

Have a wonderful long weekend.
