Hello,
We have had another fun week of learning in Grade Two!

Important Dates

Parent Teacher Conferences – November 23rd and 24th

On the evening of Thursday, November 23rd between 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the morning of Friday, November 24th between 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., teachers will meet with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and next steps in learning. Kindergarten conferences will take place all day Thursday November 23rd and on Friday, November 24th between 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There will be no impact to kindergarten student learning on Thursday – students in the Tues/Thurs class attend school.

Thank you to everyone who has already sent in donations. This has been an incredible discussion topic about "community."

Science
We are scientists! We have explored the following concepts while learning about scientific methods:
*I can investigate the physical world and how it is enhanced through scientific methods that attempt to remove human biases and increase objectivity.
*I can explore procedures scientists use to guide investigations including asking questions, making predictions, planning, observing/recording/analyzing data to reach conclusions.
* I can record accurate observations, choose appropriate tools, and base conclusions on facts and data.
* I can remain objective and not be influenced by personal thoughts, feelings, or expectations.
Ask your child about the "Skittles Experiment."

Math
* I can describe a quantity as less than, greater than, or equal to another quantity.
We continue to explore equal and equal tasks through problem-solving.
This week the problem challenged students to balance a treat (M & M's) between 2 sisters.
Some of our guiding questions when shown the M & M problem included:

1. What do you notice?
2. What do you wonder?
3. How many M&M's will each sister get? Estimate.
4. Record an estimate you know is too high and an estimate you know is too low.
Students compared their estimates and solutions and worked on accurately showing their answers using an equal or unequal sign.

Have a wonderful weekend.
