 Hello Families,

We have had a wonderful week in Grade Two!

Conferences: September 21st and 22nd

We look forward to welcoming you to our Meet the Teacher Conferences on September 21st from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, September 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To accommodate conferences, there is no school for kindergarten students on Thursday, September 21st, and no school for K–6 students on Friday, September 22nd. Information will be communicated soon about booking your individual 15-minute conference through your MyCBE PowerSchool account.

Meet the Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with their child’s teacher in the first few weeks of school and share parent perspectives around their children’s academic and social development, as well as share hopes and goals for the school year.

Power of One

This week, students explored the "Power of One" book more closely. We learned about empathy and kindness and shared personal experiences where we have witnessed or shown these skills. We collaborated and discussed strong relationships and creating a positive community.

  • I can be considerate toward others.
  • I can understand and share the feelings of others.

At home, have your child share examples of empathy and kindness.

This week students had their first "Maker Space." Students worked with a partner to create something that represented kindness. They worked on listening to others, sharing their ideas in a group, and being respectful.

Gym
Our week has been full of sunshine! We were so excited to play kickball outside. We continue to work on turn-taking and following the rules. Our Grade 2 cheering is out of this world!
  • I can follow the rules of a game.
  • I can be part of a team and take turns.
Have a great weekend!

• I can demonstrate an understanding of repeating patterns (three to five elements) by:
-describing, extending, comparing, and creating patterns using manipulatives, diagrams, sounds and actions
• I can demonstrate an understanding of increasing patterns by:
-describing, extending, comparing, and creating numerical and non-numerical patterns using manipulatives, diagrams, sounds, and actions
• I can sort a set of objects, using two attributes, and explain the sorting rule

School Anchor Text (The Power of One)
Synopsis: When one child reaches out in friendship to a classmate who seems lonely, she begins a chain reaction of kindness that ripples throughout her school and her community. One kind act begets another, small good deeds make way for bigger ones, and eventually, the whole neighborhood comes together to build something much greater than the sum of its parts. "The Power of One" conveys a message of kindness and offers concrete steps that kids can take to make a difference in their own communities.
As a school, we look forward to exploring this text further to strengthen our school community.

TWAS Journals
This year students will be bringing home a notebook called T.W.A.S. This stands for "this week at school." Every Friday students will utilize their T.W.A.S. notebook to showcase some of their learning. Please take some time to go through the notebook with them, write a comment, and have them tell you about their week. Please return the notebook every Monday.

Library Books
Grade 2 students will go to the Library every Monday please ensure library books are brought back on Mondays.

Folders & Home Reading Books
Students will be bringing home folders and home reading books daily. Thank you for sending these back each day as it supports your child's ability to organize their belongings, books, and papers from school.
