Home Literacy (Start Date Nov 1st, 2023)

The CBE has made a mandatory shift in reading practices to align with research-based practices, as well as the new curriculum. With this shift, they have announced a change from "Home Reading" to "Home Literacy". On Wednesday students will be bringing home a "Home Literacy" folder with information about our new plan moving forward. Please ensure you check your child's backpack and let us know if you have any questions.

Literacy
This week students were excited to write their Halloween stories about the paintings they created last week. They started by completing their "planning pages". Students then shared their ideas with peers to prepare for their first draft (written next week). This process involved many small and large group sharing and opportunities to give and receive feedback. Ask your child WH questions about their story. Check out our rubric below.
* I can create imaginative representations or dramatizations of stories, including characters, settings, and a plot.
* I can create written messages that align with an intended audience or purpose.

Perspective Art
We learned about perspective art this week and the farther away an object gets the smaller it will appear.
* In art, I can depict depth or distance in art.
* I can self-reflect on my artwork and add finishing touches.

Have a wonderful weekend!

* I can look at a variety of features that enhance the meaning of messages.

* I can create imaginative representations that include characters, a setting, and a sequence.

Social Studies

We continue to learn about communities. This week we focused on urban and rural concepts. Have your child share 3 things they might see in each setting.

* I can identify characteristics that define a community.

Art

This week students created beautiful Halloween haunted houses. Next week we look forward to writing about them. They will line our hallway the week of Halloween.

Have a wonderful weekend.
